Living in the Languedoc:      Languages

If you live in the Languedoc-Roussillon you really need to speak French.  If you live in the Languedoc you will find it useful to learn Occitan as well, and if you live in the Roussillon you will find Catalan a help.  This section is mainly about French.  If you are interested in Occitan or Catalan, click here to go to another section.

The ideal age to learn French is when you are still a child.  Before the age of 12 it will happen easily and effortlessly.  After that it becomes increasingly difficult, but not impossible at least until senile dementia sets in.  If you are planning to move to the Languedoc-Roussillon, then start on your French as soon as possible, before you leave.  For more about learning French, click here Next.

Francophonie (with a capital F) is the official name for the international organisation bringing together 55 States and governments, built along the lines of the Commonwealth. For more about Francophonie, click here Next.
